October 30th, 2012
I had recently returned from an art contest in Grand Rapids Michigan where I had entered this
triceph of "Fumage" portraits. These were created using candle soot. In a nutshell, I passed
the blank tiles through an open flame to collect the soot onto it. Then I used a special
combination of blending and erasing tools to create the image I wanted. This was a cumulation
of months of work and lots of money. In the end, these three pieces (each measuring over 5
feet tall!) did not win me a prize but they were seen by a representative from Ripley's "Believe
it or Not!" who later contacted me. I'm happy to say that they are now the property of Ripley's
and will be shown in their museums across the country. Thanks to everyone involved for your
help and motivation. I greatly appreciate it!
